In honor of being able to curate your avatar's movements as you would your clothing, the choreography in this animation and the three gifs after are based off the most popular – and controversial – TikTok dance "Renegade."
The controversy around this dance came from the fact that the influencer that became known for this dance, gaining an enormous amount of notoriety and money from it was not in fact, the original creator.
WAGMI (We Are All Gonna Make It)
This was originally created as a site specific work for the award-winning outdoor exhibition, Luminex in the South Park Neighborhood of Los Angeles. Usually we are the ones looking through the glass on our phone at our avatars. Now our avatars are peering at us and trying to find their way into our physical world, using the wall, windows, and doors of a building in Downtown Los Angeles...
More and more there's a blurring of reality between our physical and digital worlds. Instead of us controlling the digital dimension, is it beginning to control us? Now many of us regularly make decisions based on what we see in our digital world. For example we may trust social media outlets more than traditional news and make decisions that affect our life drastically based on what we learn there.
Here are a few of the videos of the installation on the building using projection mapping and of the original videos.
